Lindsey Davis Stover Calls on Jennifer Wexton to Reverse Her Position & Support State-Run Primary

Former Obama Administration Official Demands State Senator Wexton Join Her in Standing up for VA-10’s Right to Vote, Launches ‘Virginia Is For Voters’ Petition

McLean, VA – Lindsey Davis Stover, a former Obama Administration Senior Advisor and candidate for Virginia’s 10th Congressional District, today called for Jennifer Wexton to reverse her position and support a full and fair state-run primary to determine the Democratic nominee who will run against Barbara Comstock in 2018. Stover’s campaign is launching a petition website -- -- to call for a state-run primary to give voters a voice.

The Virginia 10th Congressional Committee, a body of 25 elected officials and committee members can decide to forego a primary without any direct input from the electorate. The committee can choose a caucus or a so-called firehouse primary, both of which severely limit voter participation.  A firehouse primary has limited voting hours with very few locations and results in only hundreds of total votes cast.

“We cannot be the party of the future if we stand for the politics of the past. It is simple, we either trust the voters or we don't -- I do.  If we can’t stand up for the basic notion that voters should have the right  to vote, then we forfeit our right to lead on any other issue. Today I’m calling on Jennifer Wexton to put trust in the voters and reverse her stance. In this election, we have an opportunity to encourage record levels of participation that will help us defeat Barbara Comstock.  The Democratic nomination should be earned, not anointed.”

Stover launched a website -- --  which includes background information on the options for choosing a Democratic nominee to run against Barbara Comstock in 2018.  Visitors can also sign the petition which will be presented to the 10th Congressional District Committee urging them to hold a fully open primary.

“I’m asking everyone to sign this petition to call for democracy; and for my fellow candidates in the race to put trust in the voters and value the voice of every single voter in VA-10,” Stover concluded.
